Crankshaft Video
The crankshaft, sometimes casually abbreviated to crank, is the part of an engine which translates reciprocating linear piston motion into rotation

The function of the Crankshaft
Animation show function of crankshaft. As the pistons collectively might be regarded as the heart of the engine, so the crankshaft (fig. 3-40) may be considered its backbone

Sandvik Coromant Crankshaft Machining
New engines are designed to produce more power at higher efficiency with reduced weight for both cost-effectiveness and high environmental standards. This puts heavy demands on the crankshaft

Data, and Video Camshaft position sensor Work

How do the Camshaft position sensor Work?
Since the Crankshaft Position Sensor's Signal triggers the Ignition Module (or Fuel Injection Computer) to start switching the Ignition Coil's Primary Current ground path On and Off... I usually refer to the sensor's signal as the Triggering Signal. Since the Crank Sensor (or Cam Sensor) is the one producing this Triggering Signal, I refer to it as the Triggering Device.

Where are The CKP and CMP Sensors Located?
These Sensors are located in several different places depending on the year, make and/or model that you're working on. Some of them are in very hard to reach places and this, in my opinion, is the only thing that complicates testing them.

TURBOCHARGER DATA AND VIDEO ANIMATION

TURBOCHARGER OPERATION
The turbocharger compresses intake air to a density
up to four times that of atmospheric pressure. This
greater amount of dense air allows more fuel to be
burned, thereby doubling the engine’s power output.
The turbocharger also reduces exhaust emissions
and exhaust noise. It compensates for the less dense
air encountered in higher altitude operation
"A naturally aspirated engine has a limited supply
of air for combustion. The air has only atmospheric
pressure pushing it into the cylinders. A turbocharger
provides pressurized air, which allows for
more air to be packed into a cylinder for each firing.
This provides more power and much better combustion
efficiency. Thus, more power is realized from a
given engine size, fuel economies improve, and emissions
are reduced.

INDUCTION, EXHAUST, AND TURBOCHARGER SYSTEM PRINCIPLES
On a naturally aspirated four-stroke-cycle engine,
the system includes the air cleaner, a precleaner (if
used), the intake manifold, and the connecting tubing
and pipes (Figure 3–1). On the two-strokecycle,
the system also includes a blower for scavenging
air and for combustion.
On a turbocharged engine, additional air is supplied
by means of a turbocharger, which is exhaust
gas–driven (Figure 3–2). On a supercharged engine
a mechanically driven blower is used to supply additional
air.

Fuel Injector Data and Fuel Injector Video

BASIC PRINCIPLES FUEL INJECTION
The heart of the fuel injection system is the
control unit, a small electronic ""computer.""
Various sensors transmit information to the
control unit concerning air temperature, engine
temperature, engine speed, and engine load. The
control unit uses this information to determine
the exact amount of fuel to be distributed to the
cylinders.

Fuel System

Figure 5 is a simplified drawing of the fuel
system. The fuel pump draws fuel from the
front-mounted fuel tank through a filter and delivers
it to 4 injectors. A pressure regulator on the return
line maintains fuel pressure at 28 psi. Excess fuel
from the regulator returns to the fuel tank.
The control unit controls the fuel pump through
a relay, not shown in Figure 1 or Figure 4. When
the ignition switch is turned on

Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system

General information
From the 1990 model year, an Electronic
Fuel Injection (EFI) system controlled by the
Electronic Engine Control IV (EEC IV) system,
and incorporating an Electronic
Distributorless Ignition system (E-DIS 4) is
used on all 1.6 litre fuel injection models. The
system is designed to meet the requirements
of the European 15.04 exhaust emission
control laws.
Those components more easily related to
the ignition system are described in Chapter
5, Part B. Those relating to the fuel system are
described in this Section.
The engine management and fuel systems
are best described by dividing them into two
separate sub-systems the air inlet system,
and the fuel system.

VEHICLE SPEED SENSORS DATA

VEHICLE SPEED SENSORS

Basically, the VSS tells the ECM how fast the vehicle is going. Most people think the VSS is only used for the lock-up
torque converter. The VSS is also used to control the EGR valve, the charcoal canister purge valve, the electric cooling
fans, idle speed, and air/fuel ratio. This is all explained in the Chevrolet shop manual (available from Helm at
(800)782-4356), which is required reading for installing the TPI/TBI engine into your vehicle.

VEHICLE SPEED SENSORS ( VSS) WIRE
Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
In addition to the standard power and ground leads, many car navigation
systems connect to a vehicle's Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) wire. The VSS wire
is used by the vehicle's cruise control to determine the vehicle's speed - it serves
the same function for the car navigation system. The VSS wire sends a series of
pulses, anywhere from 800 to just over 1,000 per mile, and sends these pulses
only when the car is in motion. If the VSS wire is not hooked up, then the unit will
not realize that the car is moving at all, and will be unable to track position.

The photos and information I provide were gathered from a 2005 KIA Sorento.
Color codes of wires should be the same for all years but I give no guarantee. If
someone finds a difference let me know and we will change the DIY to
accommodate the difference.

Output Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The No. 2 vehicle speed sensor detects the rotation speed of the transmission output shaft and sends signals
to the ECM. The ECM determines the vehicle speed, based on these signals. An AC voltage is generated
in the No. 2 vehicle speed sensor coil as the rotor mounted on the output shaft rotates, and this voltage
is sent to the ECM. The gear shift point and lock–up timing are controlled by the ECM, based on the signals
from this vehicle speed sensor and the throttle position sensor. If the No. 2 vehicle speed sensor malfunctions,
the ECM uses input signals from the No. 1 vehicle speed sensor as a back–up signal.
